Some of the information you will read on the pages of this site might seem contradictory to you.  We grew up exposing "sores" to air and not "picking the scab".   I can assure you that everything on the pages here is based in medical research and evidence as well as my 20 years of experience in amputation prevention.  Please read with an open mind and feel free to research the web on specific topics that you may have questions about.  Diabetic foot care education is crucial in preventing the tragedy of amputation.

Together we can prevent unnecessary amputations and preserve a wonderful quality of life for patients with diabetes and lower extremity vascular disease.  Thank you for visiting this site. I look forward to meeting you sometime in the future.

Learn to Prevent. Learn to Heal.

Wound care treatment...   Something that you never wanted to learn about.  But knowledge is power.  Understanding your underlying medical problems and the proper wound healing protocols can save you from unnecessary amputation. You need to find out what resources are available in your area.  You need to know if the way your healthcare team is treating your wound will allow it to heal quickly.  Diabetes, vascular insufficiency and inappropriate wound care methods set the scene for what can become a tragic amputation.  It's my goal to lead you toward the answers you need.

Over the last 20 years the science of skin protection and wound healing have made dramatic improvements.  The purpose of this web site is to provide you with information on these advances and my hope is that you will be empowered and given the tools to insure appropriate care.  Wound care treatment has changed! There are 80,000 lower extremity amputations in America year.  The tragedy is that many of these did not need to happen.
